JAKARTA - The world music legend and The Beatles member, Paul McCartney, reportedly once rejected an offer from digital giant Netflix to be the main star in their comedy show titled "Netflix Roast".

After the comedy show was a huge success with the appearance of NFL legend Tom Brady, the Netflix production team is ambitious to bring back the figure with the status of Greatest of All Time.

Their first choice fell on Paul McCartney, who is globally recognized as one of the greatest songwriters alive.

However, the 83-year-old musician chose not to take the offer and let it pass.

Veteran comedian and executive producer of the program, Jeff Ross, confirmed that his management had made a formal approach to the Fab Four personnel.

According to him, bringing a legendary figure like Paul McCartney into the hot seat of a comedy roast show is the biggest dream of the production team.

"We did ask Paul McCartney at one time. For me, it would be a comedy dream show," said Jeff Ross, quoted by Variety, Tuesday, May 19.

"Paul McCartney doesn't really need anything else, but a comedy show with him would be a good thing for the world. It would be really funny for me because he's a figure that a lot of people love," Ross added.

Until now, Netflix has been reluctant to provide an official comment on the rejection. Likewise with the official representative of Paul McCartney who has not given a direct response regarding the details of the negotiations that took place behind the scenes.

Before targeting McCartney, Netflix's head of stand-up comedy, Robbie Praw, had revealed that his party had bagged many big names in the world of entertainment.

In addition to Paul McCartney, an internal report from the entertainment industry had mentioned Will Smith's name as another potential candidate. Smith's presence is projected to be able to restore his public image after the beating incident on the Academy Awards stage.

The format of the Netflix Roast program itself adopts the success of the Comedy Central Roast tradition that has been running for decades.

The difference is, Netflix focuses on packaging this show as a large-scale entertainment event with the subject of the world's top mega stars.
