JAKARTA - The shocking news came from the British rock scene after Primal Scream's mainstay bass player, Simone Marie Butler, officially announced her retirement.

The musician, who has been an important pillar for the band formed by Bobby Gillespie, decided to end his journey after 13 years on various world stages.

Through an emotional statement on his personal Instagram account, Butler expressed his deep gratitude to all the fans who have supported him for over a decade.

He reflected on his journey as a very valuable experience and full of professional learning as an performer.

"I want to thank everyone who has given me the opportunity to play in front of them for the past 13 years with Primal Scream. It's really been an amazing journey with sincere and great people," wrote Simone Marie Butler, quoted Thursday, January 29.

"In the future I will no longer play with this band and I will miss that moment. But I really wish them the best of luck in the future," he added.

Although he is no longer on stage with Bobby Gillespie and Andrew Innes, Butler insists that his relationship with the band will never fade. He admitted that Primal Scream's music had become a part of his life, even long before he was trusted to be a member.

"I am so grateful to have been a part of this band for so long, traveling the world, meeting great people, and playing the music I love. I love you all, and even though I'm not on stage anymore, I will always be a part of the Scream family," he said.

Butler first joined the Scottish alternative rock unit as a permanent member in 2012. At that time, he took on the heavy task of replacing the position of Gary 'Mani' Mounfield, the legendary bassist who chose to leave for a reunion with The Stone Roses.

As time went on, Butler managed to prove his capacity and became a distinctive color that is inseparable from the identity of Primal Scream's music.

During his time, the bassist went through the ups and downs of the music industry with Primal Scream, including when they paid their final respects to the late Mani at Manchester's Warehouse Project.

Outside of his musical activities, Simone is also known as a figure who cares about social issues, one of which is through the documentary Year Of The Dog (2021) which highlights the lives of homeless people and their pets.
