JAKARTA - Phil Collins has just shared the latest news about his health. The 74-year-old musician revealed that he had just undergone a series of heavy medical procedures, including five knee surgeries and chronic kidney problems.

Speaking on BBC Two's Phil Collins Eras: In Conversation, the "Against All Odds" singer explained that various diseases seemed to attack his body simultaneously after he decided to retire from the stage after the Genesis farewell tour in 2022.

"This is a continuing thing. I have a nurse living at home 24 hours to make sure I'm taking my medication as prescribed," Collins said.

"I'm facing challenges with my knee, all the things that could go wrong really happened to me. I mean, I got COVID while in the hospital and my kidneys started to have problems. Everything seems to be coming together at the same time," he continued.

Collins also detailed his fight against a knee injury that led him to have five surgeries. Although he can now walk again, he still needs the help of a brace to get around.

Collins' health has declined drastically over the past two decades. This problem started with a spinal injury in 2007 that caused severe nerve damage, to the point that the condition made it difficult for him to walk.

In addition to physical factors, Collins openly admitted that his lifestyle in the past had a major impact on the failure of his kidney function.

"I probably drank too much, so my kidneys are in trouble. I enjoyed the moment of stopping the tour and thought I would do all the things I couldn't do before," said Collins.

"I stopped drinking at six in the afternoon. I'm not the type of person who stays up all night to drink; I drink during the day, but I think it's too much," he continued. "I've never been drunk, even though I've fallen a few times. However, it all eventually caught up with me and I spent months in the hospital."

The good news is, Collins is currently celebrating two years of sobriety. Despite suffering from type two diabetes and once stating he could no longer hold a drum stick properly, Collins gave his fans a little hope.

Although he was reluctant to return to the recording studio, in his last statement he hinted at an unfinished project.

"I have some things that are half-formed or never finished, and some things that are finished that I like. So, you know, maybe there's still some spirit in this old man. Yeah, we'll see later," he concluded.
