JAKARTA - Queen guitarist Brian May has revealed the depth of his friendship with fellow rock icon Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath.

May recently gifted Iommi with a replica of his iconic guitar, the Red Special, which was specially made in a left-handed version.

May's gift was revealed when Iommi posted on his social media account, showing a photo of himself trying out the new instrument.

He also expressed his gratitude for the gift which is very personal and has a high value of musical history.

"Thank you so much to my best friend, @brianmayforreal, and the great guitar maker, Andrew Guyton @guyton_guitars, for this amazing left-handed Red Special replica," Iommi wrote, quoting the caption of the upload, Tuesday, December 16.

Iommi added that Andrew Guyton personally sent him the guitar a few days ago. He also called May's gift a Christmas present.

"The true gift from Brian, which took two years to make. Christmas comes early!" he exclaimed.

The original Red Special, which is the hallmark of Queen's sound, was assembled from scratch by May with his father, Harold, in the early 1960s.

English:

At that time, May was unable to buy a guitar from a well-known brand. The historic guitar was built using mahogany wood from an old fireplace mantel and an oak fingerboard.

The guitar was May's main instrument on stage during Queen's heyday in the 1970s and 1980s, and is synonymous with the band's musical arrangements.

The replica received by Iommi was made especially by Andrew Guyton, who explained that the guitar was made with exactly the same vintage construction as Brian May's original Red Special. However, the shape was adapted to fit the iconic Jaydee Old Boy neck that Iommi used.

"This guitar is built with a vintage construction that is exactly the same as Brian May's original Red Special, but shaped to fit Tony's iconic Jaydee Old Boy neck," said Guyton.

He also described its technical features, "Equipped with an internal treble booster as well as authentic vintage pot and pickups to replicate classic tones."
