JAKARTA - Wahana Musik Indonesia (WAMI), one of the Collective Management Institutions (LMK) in Indonesia is preparing several changes in efforts to manage music copyright. This was done in response to the enactment of a new regulation on the distribution of royalties.
The government previously established a policy of collecting and distributing royalties at the National Collective Management Institute (LMKN).
WAMI President Director Adi Adrian said that all adjustments must be made in an orderly, transparent and responsible manner so as not to reduce protection for the economic rights of the creator and music publisher.
"Policy changes have major implications for the music ecosystem. WAMI is committed to keeping creators' rights protected," Adi said in his official statement in Jakarta, citing ANTARA on Friday, December 12.
In the 2025 General Meeting of Members (RUA), Adi explained the performance of WAMI throughout 2024 which showed a positive trend.
The collection of royalties was recorded at Rp176.24 billion, supported by digital revenue growth which rose 28 percent to Rp130.78 billion. Platforms such as YouTube, Meta, TikTok, Spotify, and Apple Music are the main contributors through improving reporting on the use of music.
Non-digital royalties have also recorded the highest increase in the last five years, especially from the live event sector which jumped eight times to Rp16.52 billion.

From international cooperation, overseas collection increased to IDR 19.21 billion through a network with 63 CMOs in 57 countries, with the largest contributors MACP, CASH, ASCAP, PRS, and COMPASS.
In terms of distribution, the total distribution of royalties in 2024 reached Rp126.33 billion, including foreign distribution of Rp22.39 billion.
This figure has decreased compared to the previous year due to the cyclic slowdown in 2023. As members grow to 5,671 creators and 118 publishers, WAMI prepares a new distribution scheme that will be carried out three times a year starting in 2025.
In the operational aspect, WAMI strengthens the digital system through the development of ATLAS, registration platforms and updating of member data that will be integrated with the Pronto monitoring system.
The latest version, ATLAS 2.0, is prepared for implementation in 2026 with more intuitive administrative and dashboard automation features.
"Organization revenue in 2024 increased 31 percent to IDR 185 billion, although on the other hand operational costs also increased due to the addition of human resources, digitization, and legal professional services. However, this increase is still below the 20 percent limit set in national standards," Adi explained.
Entering 2025, changes in regulations had a direct impact on the distribution of royalties. As of November, distribution fell 12 percent after the LMK's licensing function was frozen. WAMI has submitted Rp64 billion to LMKN for verification, and Rp36.9 billion was returned for distribution to members.
At the organizational level, WAMI proposed the formation of the Executive Committee which oversees the Audit Committee, Remuneration, Distribution, Management, and Nominations.
The goal is to strengthen supervision, transparency, and strategic decision-making. The mechanism for selecting the Chairperson of the Management Board will also be changed; the chairman will be elected by the Supervisory Body based on the recommendation of the Nomination Committee.
For the transition period to RUA-LB 2026, the Supervisory Board and the Chairperson of the Management Board are currently appointed as executors of tasks and limited to operational decisions.
WAMI also proposed an expansion of the mandate to receive mechanical rights from film streaming applications (OTT Films) selectively, provided that one-door licenses, approval from the Supervisory Board, and written mandates from member publishers.
Adi emphasized WAMI's commitment to maintaining the sustainability of the function of education, advocacy, and service of members.
"We want to make sure all members understand policy changes and jointly formulate WAMI's future," he said.
