Biopic Film Trailer Michael Jackson Sets Global View Record

JAKARTA - The first trailer for biopic Michael Jackson has listed himself as the most watched biopic musician in history. This achievement was achieved in just the first 24 hours of its launch.

According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, data from WaveMetrix shows the trailer grossed more than 116.2 million views globally, in the first 24 hours since its release.

This figure not only makes the biopic trailer the most viewed musician of all time, but also the most watched movie preview ever distributed by Lionsgate.

But in the midst of the fantastic euphoria of figures, the film project has drawn heavy criticism, especially from Dan Reed, the director behind the documentary Leavingmen'' who recorded various allegations of sexual harassment against Michael Jackson.

Reed publicly criticized the creation of this new biopic, stating that the film would glorify a man who raped children.

The director even claimed that he had read the draft biopic script whose contents were openly trying to discredit the men who made accusations in the "Leaving bag".

Sensitive accusations are not the first to be faced by the production team. Earlier this year, reports emerged that the film was delayed because the team was forced to re-shoot in the third part due to the depiction of the Jordan Chandler case which was deemed unapproved.

Responding to the ripples of controversy, actor Colman Domingo, who plays Joe Jackson, defended this project. He said everyone has a story to tell and guarantees the film will highlight a complex human figure.

On the other hand, technical issues related to duration also surfaced. In May, it was reported that this film could potentially be divided into two parts because of the length of the story to be raised.

Although the division of these two parts has not been confirmed, the Lionsgate chairman of Motion Picture Groups, Adam Fogelson, alluded to this potential after the trailer release.

"While we are not ready to confirm the plan for the second film, I can tell you that the creative team is working hard to ensure that we are in a position to present more Michael as soon as we release the first film," said Fogelson.

Meanwhile, the film, entitled Michael, features King of Pop's nephew in the real world, Jaafar Jackson, as the main character. Meanwhile, Oscar nominee Colman Domingo is trusted to play his father, Joe Jackson.

The film itself is scheduled to premiere on the big screen on April 24, 2026.

Besides Jaafar Jackson and Colman Domingo, the other cast cast includes Miles Teller as John Branca's lawyer, Kat Graham as Diana Ross, Nia Long asction Jackson, Laura Harrier asction de Passe, skills Sncepson as flight Jones, and Juliano Krue Valdi as young Michael.
