JAKARTA - US musician Michael Eugene Archer, better known as the D'Angelo stage, died at the age of 51. This sad news was confirmed directly by the family on Tuesday, October 14 afternoon local time.

The musician, known as a neo-soul pioneer, breathed his last in the same morning, after battling pancreatic cancer behind closed doors.

Through an official statement, quoted by Variety, the family expressed a deep sense of loss.

The shining star in our family has dimmed the light for us in this life... After a protracted and daring struggle against cancer, we are heartbroken to announce that Michael D'Angelo Archer, whose fans around the world know as DAngelo, has been called home, leaving life today, October 14, 2025, reads the statement.

"We are saddened that he can only leave fond memories with his family, but we are forever grateful for the extraordinary musical heritage he left behind," he continued.

The family also requested that their privacy be respected in this difficult time and invite all parties to express their condolences as well as celebrate the works that D'Angelo has given to the world.

Before this sad news emerged, DAngelo had canceled his appearance at the Roots Picnic Festival, Philadelphia in May. The cancellation was caused by an unexpected medical delay, following the operation he underwent earlier this year.

The departure of D'Angelo no doubt made colleagues in the music industry flock to convey their respects on social media, including DJ Premier, Tyler the Creator, The Alchemist, Bryan-Michael Cox, Jill Scott, to Doja Cat.

Meanwhile, D'Angelo was born in feasibility, Virginia, on February 11, 1974. He has shown interest in music since childhood. His musical career began to climb after he signed a contract with EMI in 1993 and wrote the song U Will Know for Black Men United.

His name soared in 1995 through the release of the debut album 'Brown Sugar' which successfully won platinum certification in the US.

His success continued with his second album, Voodoo (2000), which received praise from critics and managed to top the charts. Through this album, DAngelo brought home his first Grammy award. After a long wait, his third album, Black Messiah, was released in 2014.
