Louis Tomlinson Explains The Atmosphere When One Direction Decides To Hiatus A Decade Ago

JAKARTA - Louis Tomlinson finally revealed the details behind the surprising decision when One Direction entered "aa hiatus that was extended in 2015".

Almost a decade later, Tomlinson described the atmosphere in the meeting which led to the One Direction split. He also denied that there were any third parties present at the crucial meeting.

Tomlinson said serious and important moments are very rare in One Direction. Usually the group atmosphere is filled with the spirit of friendship and togetherness.

"What's really interesting is those very serious moments... we won't experience it often in One Direction," Tomlinson said during a recent interview on the CEO's The Diary Of A podcast with Steven Bartlett.

"I think there are times where you have to be selfish," he added.

Furthermore, the 33-year-old singer said that the atmosphere that day changed completely.

"Suddenly, you find someone thinking more independently and more for themselves, which, by the way, they have full right to do so," he said. But the room felt cold that day... I've never felt such energy in the room. There is this void."

Tomlinson described himself at that time as a naive figure and insisted on getting clarity about the duration of the hiatus. Unfortunately, he never got a definite answer.

"I never really got an answer to that question 'which I understand now, because to be honest, I don't think the people or people involved were brave enough to answer that question," he said. "Far down in the heart, I think they may know the truth, and that's why it's difficult."

He also admitted that he felt devastated and furious when his colleague at One Direction, Zayn Malik, chose to leave the group without telling him first.

In this case, Tomlinson suspected, Malik did not tell him because he was sure he would try to stop him.
