Minister Of Culture Fadli Zon Encourages Indonesian Musicians To Realize Indonesian Wave

JAKARTA - Minister of Culture (Menbud) Fadli Zon, in his speech at the opening of the 2025 Indonesian Music Conference (KMI), expressed high hopes for Indonesian musicians.

Given the potential for music as a cultural diplomacy tool, Fadli encourages musicians to continue working, so that Indonesian music can lead Indonesian Wave (Indonesian wave) as well as what happened in South Korea.

"We also hope from Indonesian musicians, and of course in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and other institutions, how can Indonesian music become Indonesian Wave," said Fadli at The Sultan Hotel & Residence, Central Jakarta on Wednesday, October 8.

K-pop music is a reference, where the works of its musicians produce Korean Waves, so that South Korea as a country has an increasingly international role.

Last month, I attended the conference of the Ministry of Culture of APEC countries in South Korea. And I happened to be on the same table with several CEOs and owners of the K-Pop group, among others from HYBE, from YG, next to me there is JYP, and also some from SM," he said.

"They are talking about K-Pop for further collaboration with countries in Latin America, even in Southeast Asia," he added. We see that this cultural project through K-Pop music has succeeded in making Korea (South) more visible in the international world.

Like what happened in South Korea and several other countries, said Fadli, music has proven itself to be part of an important soft power.

What Fadli stated, as well as the efforts made by his staff at the Ministry of Culture in the past year, could not be separated from the constitutional mandate.

"There is a constitutional mandate that I always quote in various places, Article 32 paragraph 1 of the 1945 Constitution, it reads: "The state advances Indonesia's national culture in the midst of world civilization by ensuring the community in maintaining and developing its cultural values," said Fadli.

"So, there is a constitutional order, the state advances Indonesia's national culture in the midst of world civilization. Not only in Indonesia, but in the midst of world civilization," he said.
