Paramore And Hayley Williams Join The No Music For Genocide Movement

JAKARTA - In the midst of the issue of the disbandment of the band, Paramore and Hayley Williams showed a firm stance on humanitarian issues in response to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

They join the No Music for Genocide (No Music for Genocide) movement, a cultural boycott initiative that invites musicians and copyright owners to withdraw their musical works from streaming platforms in Israel.

To support this movement, Paramore and Hayley Williams have changed their song release area or sent geo-block requests to distributors and record labels. This action is also supported by other musicians, such as Fontaines DC, Amyl & The Laughers, and Kneecap, who have been listed on the campaign's official website.

In addition, several independent musicians such as Rina Sawayama, MIKE, Primal Scream, and Japanese Breakfast also participated.

The movement also prompted big labels such as Sony, UMG, and Warner to follow their lead "enforced that the labels had blocked entire catalogs and shut down operations in Russia following the invasion of Ukraine."

Paramore itself did not directly comment on their participation in this campaign. However, in May 2024, they have called for donations for humanitarian aid in Gaza as Israeli military operations in Rafah intensified.

Previously, they had also supported Save the Children (Save Children) and Doctors Without Borders' Emergency Fund (District Doctor Emergency Fund).

In an official statement at the time, Paramore said: "We do not believe that support for our Palestinian friends and family is the same as anti-Semitism. We love our Jewish friends and family and pray for the return of the remaining hostages safely. Therefore, we cannot support genocide."

They collaborated with Bug Girl designers to make merchandise which was donated to Medical Aid for Palestinians.
