Soundgarden's Last Album Is On Work, Shows Chris Cornell's Latest Vocal

JAKARTA - Chris Cornell's sudden departure, in 2017 left not only deep sorrow for his fans and fellow musicians, but also left an unresolved music project.

Now that hope is back. Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron confirmed that the band's last album was in the process of being worked on, featuring Chris Cornell's last vocals.

The process of working on this album, according to Cameron, is full of emotional turmoil. The reason is, he constantly hears the voice of the late Cornell who is distinctive.

"Emotionally, it's an extreme peak and valley," Cameron said in a recent interview with Billboard.

"Listening to his voice (Chris Cornell) in these powerful hard rock songs is the most empowering thing in the world for me," he added.

But on the other hand, the process also sparked deep sadness. "Then I heard his own voice while I was working on something, or if Kim (Thayil) or Ben (Shepherd) was working on something, and it all came back to the fact that he wasn't with us and he left us in a way that left so many questions," Cameron explained.

"It hurts but at the same time it is very empowering," he added.

Although there is no exact release date yet, Cameron provides hints that the work on this album has already crossed half the way. "We're obviously more than half done," he said.

It was also stated that guitarist Kim Thayil was in the process of finalizing his guitar section to ensure that every detail was in accordance with his wishes.

The release of this last album is one of Soundgarden's most anticipated projects. This news is also a continuation of the legal dispute resolution between Soundgarden and Cornell's family in 2023, which includes rights to some of the last unreleased songs.

Apart from Matt Cameron, bassist Ben Shepherd and guitarist Kim Thayil also continue to be actively involved in working on this project.
