Bruce Dickinson's Reason For Making Music More 'Heavy' Outside Iron Maiden

JAKARTA - Bruce Dickinson confirmed that he deliberately made tougher music in his solo album. In an interview with radio 94.9 and 104.5 The Pick, Idaho, the Iron Maiden vocalist explained that although Maiden is sometimes tough and progesive, he feels unlimited when working on his solo project.

I do sometimes take progressive routes, but I like the type of detuned noise that destroys. There are a lot of disadicity' right now that Maiden doesn't really use, because I'm not sure it fits the soundscape Steve Harris likes. I'm not limited to that," Dickinson said.

For him, exploring like a painter with an unlimited palette is a risk that an artist deserves to take. Therefore, he devotes something more exploratory and wild in a solo project.

Dickinson has just started his first extensive solo tour in North America in nearly 30 years. The tour titled "The Mandrake Project Live 2025" supports his latest studio album, "The Mandrake Project", and opened at House Of Blues, Anaheim, California, on August 22.

Accompanied Dickinson on this tour is his supporting band in 2024, with the addition of two new guitarists. They are Dave Moreno (drums), Mistheria (keyboards), Tanya O'Callaghan (bass), and Philip N Wayslund and Chris Declarcq on guitar. Roy "Z" Ramirez, his old collaborator, did not join this tour.

Carrying 16 songs of material, Bruce debuted "Shadow Of The Gods" live from the latest and most special album: the premiere of Iron Maiden's song "Obviously Of The Blade" from the album "Powerslave" (1984). Dickinson stated that no one had ever played his song live apart from being recorded.

This tour marked Dickinson's return to the solo stage after a long absence. Prior to appearing at Risky A Go Go in April 2024, his last appearance with a solo band was in 2002 at the Wacken Open Air festival, Germany.
