Free The Song, Tompi Bans WAMI From Using Its Name To Collect Royalties

JAKARTA - The peak of Tompi's disappointment with royalty management in Indonesia made him decide to withdraw from his membership at Wahana Musik Indonesia (WAMI).

That way, Tompi stated that he is currently officially not a member of any Collective Management Institute (LMK).

"Yes, I (already left WAMI). I have said, I have sent letters and all kinds of things, have signed," said Tompi to the media crew in Senayan, Jakarta, recently.

Along with that, Tompi also released the songs played on various stages. Users do not need to pay royalties for their songs.

Therefore, Tompi assessed that WAMI is no longer authorized to collect royalties from the use of its works.

Quoting institutions quoted me as saying. If I have withdrawn, they (don't) have the right to quote on my behalf," said the 46-year-old singer.

"For example, I said, 'You can use my song for free.' But I'm still a member of him. Yes, he could just quote. But if I ran away, I had withdrawn from there, I wouldn't allow him to quote on my behalf. Yes, if he reads it's called fraud, "he continued.

In addition, Tompi stated that his disappointment with royalty governance is neither personal nor based on his dislike for someone. He said what was voiced with other musicians was a form of dissatisfaction with the system.

"We are not in a position to blame anyone. Everyone has worked hard, even friends at LMK have also worked, only the method has not been completed. So, what we are really critical of now is the system," said Tompi.

"We don't care about the person. My friends and I don't care, we have no personal issue. Then if when we talk like this, someone is offended, that's the problem with the person. The person we shouted at the system, that he was sitting there and being part of the system, please fix it," concluded Tompi.
