Royalty Revenue Drops To IDR 4.9 Million, Melly Goeslaw: Alhamdulillah, Few And Many Must Be Grateful

JAKARTA - Singers who currently serve as members of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Melly Goeslaw, through Instagram uploads, again revealed the amount of royalties she received from Wahana Musik Indonesia (WAMI).

Melly said that she received Rp4,978,443 from WAMI on Monday, July 7 yesterday. This amount decreased drastically from what she got last March, amounting to Rp559.9 million.

"Alhamdulillah, little or many must be grateful," Melly wrote in the uploaded statement.

The son of musician Melky Goeslaw understands that the amount of royalties that songwriters receive in each period does not have to be the same, as does the income earned by a singer.

Riyalti is not like a salary that is still the number every month, sometimes it can be really big sometimes it can be very small, "he said. It's the same as a singer, sometimes getting big income sometimes you can't get it at all. Coincidentally, I'm in two places (songwriters and songwriters), so I feel both.

However, Melly feels that the position as a songwriter will guarantee more financially. The reason is, there is no more cost to pay like a singer. Not to mention, copyright can be inherited up to 70 years after he died.

"It's just good to be a songwriter, if it's me, you don't have to perform, you don't have to make makeup, you don't have to pay for this production, then you still get it until 70 years after death. Not bad for the heirs," he said.

"This will only be good if the royalty management is correct, transparent and accountable. Hopefully this can happen immediately," he continued.

At the end of the upload statement, Melly realized that many people would be wondering about her royalty income which had dropped dramatically. However, she still entrusted her power to the Collective Management Institute (LMK) she chose, namely WAMI.

"As a copyright holder who gives power to LMK, whatever the questions or anything that becomes unrest should be questioned and asked for transparency to LMK as the party given by the power of power," he said.

"How are the other composers, have you got the transfer yet? There must be people wondering, how come yesterday the royalties were hundreds of millions, now they have dropped free? Why? For 2 people who can answer, I gave a labbu prize," he said.

Without waiting long, WAMI through the comments column explained that the amount of royalties that Melly had just received was not for a new period, but after that from the previous period.

The distribution received by Teh Melly is a follow-up distribution for the previous period (March 2025), usually because there is an update of data or log of the song that has just entered. This distribution is not part of the July period. Thank you for the understanding," WAMI replied.
