Rian D'Masiv Sad To See Musisi Mutual Sue, Hope Royalty System Improves

JAKARTA - The vocalist of D'Masiv, Rian Ekky Pradipta, also voiced his concern over copyright-related conflicts among Indonesian musicians, some of whom ended up in lawsuits.

As is known, songwriter Ari Bias sued Agnez Mo at the Central Jakarta Commercial Court in September 2024, where the panel of judges granted part of Ari's lawsuit.

The process continued after Agnez Mo filed an appeal to the Supreme Court.

As many parties fear, the case has a domino effect. Most recently, Keenan Nasution and Rudi Pekerti sued Vidi Aldiano for performing the song Nuance Bening in 31 commercial performances without permission.

Responding to what happened, Rian, through an upload on his Instagram account, admitted that he was sad when the musicians sued each other.

"I'm sad, why are you sad, singer musicians (and) creators sue each other like this," Rian wrote, citing a description of the upload, Monday, June 9.

The D'Masiv frontman feels that the current chaos is caused by the music industry itself which does not side with its artists.

"If this industry sided with its artists, it wouldn't have ended up like this," he added.

In another upload, Rian invited singers and other bands to perform his songs without fear of being sued. However, he also expressed hope that music performance organizers would pay royalties according to the provisions.

"Create a band and a singer that brings my works, please sing and be performed as often as possible, wherever you are," said Rian.

"For EOs and promoters or event organizers, don't forget to pay for performing songwriter royalties to collective institutions, so that songwriters like me and other rich songwriters. Aamin," he said.
