Wijaya 80 Always Asks For Senior Musician Opinions After Production Of New Songs

JAKARTA - Wijaya 80, a unit from Jakarta consisting of Ardhito Pramono (vocals, keytar), Hezky Joe (vocals, guitars), Erikson Jayanto (keyboards), chose to carry the 1980s musical style which was reinterpreted.

The choice is based on their concerns over the fading of the 1980s musical style, which is considered an important milestone in the development of today's music.

The three Wijaya 80 personnel clearly expressed their admiration for musicians who contributed greatly to the 1980s music, especially those in the Indonesian music industry.

Ardhito even admitted that Wijaya 80 always asked for a response from senior musicians, after finishing producing new songs.

"Honestly, every time we just make a recording, we will definitely send it to senior musicians, like Om Candra Darusman, Om Erwin Gutawa, Om Fariz RM," said Ardhito when met in Cikini, Central Jakarta on Wednesday, April 9.

For one example, Ardhito said, he immediately sent the recording of the song Young Boy Karimata bassist who is currently better known as a music conductor, Erwin Gutawa.

"Their response is rich, for example there is one song we have, 'Young people', after the production is finished, send it directly to Om Erwin, right, then I say 'Omm, Karimata KW2 here.' Then Om Erwin said 'Wow, this is cooler than Karimata.'

Dengan gaya musik yang diusung meski berasal dari empat dekade lalu Wijaya 80 yakin bahwa nilai-nilai musik dari era tersebut merupakan pilihan yang tepat dan akan diterima dengan baik oleh penikmat musik muda saat ini.

"I'm confident (of confidence) really (Wijaya 80 was accepted by young listeners? Because if you look at Gen Z's children now, they have started to go to Blok M again... It's a cool thing now, which is the song (from the 1980s) cool," said Ardhito.

"Indeed, a good song cannot be lied to, it will always be good," he concluded.
