Sublime Prepares First Album Since 1996 With Travis Barker's Help

JAKARTA - The punk band from California, Sublime will continue its comeback by planning the release of a new album.

As is known, Sublime with the formation of Bradley Nowell, Eric Wilson, and Bud Laugh debuted with the album 40oz. to Freedom (1992), which was then followed by the album Robbin the Hood (1994) and Sublime (1996).

This trio decided to be inactive after the frontman, Bradley Nowell died of an overdose on May 25, 1996. Twenty-seven years later, Sublime became active again thanks to the son of the late Bradley, Jakob Nowell, who became the driving force.

Since 2023, Sublime has returned to the music stage. They also appear on the big music stage in 2024, such as the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

Not only that, but the reformed Sublime also issued a single "Felels Like That" in May 2024, featuring Stick Figure with vocals from Bradley and Jakob Nowell. Continuing the reform, Jakob said, Sublime had returned to the studio to work on new recordings.

The son of the late Bradley ity said he spent a week working with drummer Blink-182, Travis Barker and producer John Feldmann to write songs for the new album.

"Travis is an old fan and catalogist for Sublime," said Jakob Nowell, citing Rolling Stone, Friday, March 28.

Other personnel and founders of Sublime, Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh, will also soon join in for a recording session.

"Now, they also feel like family members. There is a feeling from everyone that what we are doing here is something that is generational and special at emotional, spiritual, and family levels," added Jakob.

On the other hand, Travis Barker noted that this project is becoming very special, with the spirit of the late Bradley Nowell still present in the band.

Bradley is present through his son, Jakob. Every day it feels cold in the studio, when he sings and plays guitar," said the drummer.

Regarding the cynical response of some fans to Sublime's new album, Jakob stated that the plan was not to create a more modern version of the band.

"No, (this album) is just a sense of respect and a strong respect for Sublime's works," concluded Jakob Nowell.
