JAKARTA - Indra Prasta, the vocalist of The Rain, has shown concern for nature preservation in the song Today for Our Tommorow. This song was released on March 9 with the concept of an animated video clip about the problems faced by the earth. Therefore, the European Union Delegation to Indonesia invited Indra to celebrate Earth Day which fell on April 22 yesterday.

Apparently, not only through songs, Indra also applies environmental care by gardening at home. "Loving the environment can be started from one's own activities, namely planting in the home garden to meet daily vegetable needs," said Indra when he was a speaker at holding a virtual talk show with the theme Protect the Earth Starting from Dishes, Thursday, April 22.

According to Indra, maintaining consistency of caring for the earth is the toughest challenge. "When I started gardening I was happy. But to be consistent is the hardest thing. If you want to continue, after reaping the results it will make you enthusiastic again," said Indra.

This event was also attended by the Director General of Marine Space Management, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Tb Haeru Rahayu, and featured several environmental activists from various sectors.

“Earth Day is an opportunity to strengthen our commitment to preserving the earth. The European Union recently launched the 'EU Green Deal' as a new growth model and roadmap for achieving climate neutrality in the European Union by 2050. One of its policies is the 'From Farm to Fork', which promotes design a fair, healthy and environmentally friendly food system. This policy also strengthens our efforts to tackle climate change, protect the environment and conserve biodiversity, ”said the EU Ambassador to Indonesia, Mr. Vincent Piket.

Through EU Earth Day 2021, the European Union wants to inspire young people to make changes and take real action. "Forests, seas, rivers, fields and gardens will remain a source of food and livelihoods if we maintain a harmonious relationship with nature. This principle underlies the concept of From Farm to Fork," added Vincent.

In this celebration event, environmental activists share experiences about the smart innovations they have implemented. Chef Ragil Imam Wibowo (NUSA Indonesian Gastronomy) raised pride in the wealth of raw materials and diversity of dishes from Sabang to Merauke.

Meanwhile, Ruri Arimbi (Co-Owner of Organic Patani), shared good practices in developing organic farming directly with farmers in West Java.

From the marine sector, I Wayan Suwarbawa (Sustainable Seaweed Cultivator) shared his inspiration on the preservation of marine ecosystems and gave an example of processing seaweed into crackers, lunkhead, drinks and snacks. Meanwhile, Mursiati (Director of the Wakatobi Octopus Program) is engaged in an octopus catch management system in Wakatobi by using customary rules, as well as providing guidance to women and fishermen.

Together with Indra Prasta The Rain who cares about the environment, Sheila Rooswitha, a young comic artist shows how environmental education can be delivered by means of storytelling. "Through attractive visuals, the message will be easier to reach the audience," he explained.
