Show Ismail Marzuki's Work In The Musical Drama MAR, Dian HP Make Sure Producers Pay Royalties

JAKARTA - Dian Hadipranowo or better known as Dian HP, was lined up to be the music singer for the musical MAR which was held for three days at Ciputra Artpreneur, South Jakarta on 26-28 February.

In this performance, Dian rearranged 18 songs from Ismail Marzuki. With a jazz approach, he led the big band to arrange every song to match the story he picked up.

Given the submission of Ismail Marzuki's songs requires permission and royalty payment, which is currently owned by his son as the heir of copyright holder Dian ensures that all procedures are carried out with respect to the composer's copyright.

"Including (the songs) Ismail Marzuki, the producer has already taken care of it. So, I never dared (to bring Ismail Marzuki's song without fulfilling the creator's economic rights)," said Dian when met before the first day of performance.

"If the producer says 'It's been (taken care of), isn't it.' 'Is it right?' Well, we'll do it," he continued.

As a musician, Dian knows very well that every musical work contains moral rights and economic rights for the creator. He even always ensures that everything is in accordance with the procedure.

"I usually do if I want to work at any event, I always ask, it has been taken care of, the royalties are not yet. I usually do that," said Dian.

"Because I am one of those who care about it, the rights that must be owned by the creator. Anyway, anyone, artists must have their rights, because they work and think about creating works," he added.

Adalun, the musical drama MAR is produced by ArtSwara and directed by Wawan Sofwan, with a script written by Titien Wattimena.

This performance promises experience in the form of a combination between history, music and romance, by presenting a love story and fortitude with the background of Indonesia's struggle after independence followed by a historic tragic incident, Bandung Lautan Api.

Those who will appear on stage are Gabriel Harvianto as the main character, with his girlfriend played by Galabby Thahira. In addition, there are also Taufan Purbo Kusumo, Ni Made Ayu Vania Aurellia, Bima Zeno Pooroe, and Witririe.
