Tribute Kid Cudi In Acclaimed SNL Debut

JAKARTA - Rapper Kid Cudi made his debut as a musical guest on nbc comedy show Saturday Night Live on Saturday, April 10.

To put on a special performance, Kid Cudi surprised the audience with a floral patterned dress similar to the one Nirvana vocalist Kurt Cobain wore in the 1990s.

He sang the song Sad People taken from his 2020 album, Man on the Moon III: The Chosen.

Her performance received rave reviews from the audience although few asked why a Kid Cudi wore a dress commonly worn by women. As it turns out, this idea also came from Louis Vuitton's artistic director, Virgil Abloh.

"I told him (Virgil Abloh) to show love to Kurt in a floral dress and this guy made a masterpiece. Thank you @virgilabloh you are a genius!! Love you friend, we made it!!!"

Not only that, Kid Cudi also paid tribute to former SNL presenter Chris Farley.

While singing tequila shots, Cudi wore a green cardigan like the one Cobain wore and a picture of Chris Farley, the former SNL presenter who died in 1997 at the age of 33.

Many Twitter users likened the green cardigan Kid Cudi wore to Nirvana's appearance on MTV Unplugged.

The clothes Kid Cudi wore were not just a sensation but a way for Kid Cudi to pay tribute to Kurt Cobain and Chris Farley.

Kid Cudi's performance was broadcast the same week as the anniversary of Cobain's death on April 5. Kid Cudi idolizes Kurt Cobain very much and this is not the only way he shows his love.

Kid Cudi has a tattoo dedicated to Kurt Cobain. He also sampled the legend's demo in Montage of Heck titled Burn the Rain for Kids See Ghosts' Cudi Montage, a duo by Kanye West and Kid Cudi.

His tribute action won the praise of the netizens. They claimed to be proud and happy with how Kid Cudi made a tribute while displaying creativity in dress does not limit any type.

"Dreams come true!! Love everyone amazing on SNL!! Tell me if you need me and I'll be there," Kid Cudi said.

Then Kid Cudi said he would release a new collection alongside Abloh's Off-White label and the dress worn would be on the list of upcoming collections.

This is not Cudi's first collaboration with Abloh. In May last year, they teamed up to release the Merchandise Leader of the Delinquents, Kid Cudi's newest song at the time.
