This Is Marty Friedman's Ex-Megadeth Advice For Young Guitarists

JAKARTA - Marty Friedman ex Megadeth is known as one of the best guitarists in the realm of metal and rock music. His complex games and improvisations use techniques that are difficult to emulate.

The 61-year-old guitarist also did not hesitate to share his music experience with young guitarists. In a recent interview with SKYline China, Marty shared his views when asked about young guitarists who are too focused on developing techniques and may lack expressing emotions and creativity in their game.

"Technicals are important. You have to be able to play musical instruments. So, of course, practicing whatever is good. However, what I've always said is that you have to create opportunities to play in front of other people," said Marty Friedman.

"It doesn't matter whether you're a beginner, medium, or super professional. When playing in front of other people, your body says, 'I have to play my best because I don't want to create chaos in front of other people'," he continued.

Marty said the pressure he gets when playing in front of other people will make a musician trained to be more effective.

"If you are alone and you make mistakes or play badly, no pressure, no one cares, nothing happens. But when you play in front of other people, your body forces you to work harder," he said.

Playing in front of other people also means a musician trains himself not to look like a stupid person while playing music.

'Train in front of your sister, your brother, your family, your friends. Say, 'Look, I'm trying to play this new song right now. Listen.' It's much better than playing in your room,' said the guitarist.

So even if you're in a startup band, try to make a small show. Take it out in the park or play at a small club or restaurant, because that's how what you do will stick to your body."
