JAKARTA - Sal Priadi revealed the role of AMI Awards in his musical journey. Born and raised in Malang, East Java, the 32-year-old songwriters said that the Indonesian music award event had brought him to Jakarta.

Memories of Sal and the AMI Awards brought him back to 2018, when for the first time he was nominated.

"So, I'm still in Malang, we watched live Instagram. So I was in the same studio with my friend from Coldiac," said Sal Priadi during a press conference at the 2024 AMI Awards in Senayan, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, October 15.

Sal remembers very well, at that time Coldiac had been announced to be nominated.

The'solar flower' singer admitted that he had given up if he did not succeed in becoming a nominee. Then, he decided to leave the studio and go pick up his sister at school.

After picking up his sister, Sal said there were several friends who contacted him, informing him that he was nominated for the Best Pop Male Solo Artist category.

"After picking up my sister from school, I was informed that I entered (category) the Best Pop Men, together with Rendy Pandugo, Afgan, and Anji at that time," said Sal.

"Imagine who they are in their respective homes (thinking), 'Who is this kamptem coming in?'," he continued.

Unfortunately, Sal failed to bring home the winning trophy at that time. He lost to Anji with the song 'Waiting for you'.

But behind that, Sal said that the appreciation from the AMI Awards which placed him as a nominee in 2018, made him dare to go entirely to Jakarta to continue his musical journey.

"But for a short story I want to thank you, I can say that the appreciation from AMI also brought me the courage to move to Jakarta," said Sal.

"So at that time the song 'Kekat Aku Di Tulang Belibatmu', after getting AMI, I was an overseas child who was still hesitant to move to Jakarta, finally I ventured to move," he concluded.
