JAKARTA - Evanescence vocalist Amy Lee spoke to Alternative Press about how their first ever record label, Wind Up, threatened not to release their debut album Fallen. What is the reason?
According to Amy, Wind Up asked Evanescence to add a male voice to the lead single Bring Me To Life to make it more suitable for radio.
The album version of Bring Me to Life - featuring guest vocalist Paul McCoy of 12 STONES - reached No. 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was the No. 1 England's first Evanescence.
The song was added to the soundtrack album for the superhero film Daredevil which helped drive sales.
"I was totally against the male vocals in our music. It was very difficult. And it was an idea that came from the label. And suddenly everything became about Bring Me To Life; they decided that was the song," said Amy.
"I actually didn't think it had to be the first (single); I wanted to Going Under. They came up with the idea of adding something in there that would be familiar to radio listeners. I don't really understand what that means," he continued.
As a result, Fallen sold 17 million copies and won two Grammys, including in the Best Rock Performance category for the song Bring Me To Life.
Amy and friends have just released a new album titled The Bitter Truth. This is their first album which contains original songs in 10 years
