Welcoming Taylor Swift's Concert, The City In Germany Changes Its Name To Swiftkirchen

JAKARTA - Taylor Swift has again shown her great influence through music. In order to welcome the famous Eras Tour, the city on the west bank of Germany, Gelsenkirchen changed its name to Swiftkirchen for a while.

Through an article on the city's official website, Mayor Karin Welge, who leads Gelsenkirchen, is said to have agreed to temporarily change the name of his territory.

"Welcome to Swiftkirchen! Major Karin Welge with a blink agrees to change the name (of the city) temporarily," reads the title of the article.

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift's Eras Tour concert at Gelsenkirchen will take place at the VELTINS Arena on July 17-19. For three days, hundreds of thousands of Swifties are expected to attend the concert.

The change in the city's name stems from a petition submitted to the mayor in recent weeks. Karin Welge herself said she was happy to accept the idea.

"It's a great idea to temporarily change the name Gelsenkirchen to 'Swiftkirchen'. That's why I'm so happy that you can feel the'replacement' of the short-term Gelsenkirchen live and close to Gelsenkirchen today," Welge said.

Related city officials have also marked the entrance to the concert location under the name Swiftkirchen. Similar signs will be installed in more corners of the city that are often visited.

The transformation of Gelsenkirchen into Swiftkirchen will be even more massive in the coming days. A "Trem Taylor Swift" from Bogestra has been launched and specially designed to be attractive as a photo background.

To entertain those who don't get concert tickets, a big party will also be held. With the support of the city government, city marketing companies and City of Gelsenkirchen initiatives, various activities related to the 'Blank Space' singer will also be presented.

"As Mayor, I am certainly very happy that Taylor Swift, the most successful singer in the world today, will appear three times at Gelsenkirchen. Therefore, international attention will return to our city as soon as EURO 2024," concluded Karin Welge.
