How Lorjhu Brings Madura Culture To Enjoy Many People

JAKARTA - Lyrics are an important element in a song. Through lyrics, listeners can understand what is conveyed through songs.

But in some cases, lyrics are not really important to understand a song. Listeners only need to enjoy the music performed without having to know what each word means.

This happened to Lorjhu, a music group from Madura whose entire songs use Madura. What is interesting to see, many listeners come from other tribes, who incidentally do not understand Madura.

So far, Lorjhu has been quite successful, by presenting contemporary Madura-language music. They have loyal listeners who are young people in Jakarta.

"If the experience is interesting, not only at concerts. Because from the beginning Lorjhu released the first single, it's not in Madura. Listeners who are crowded are outside Madura, (the crowd) on the islands of Java and the island of Sumatra, but the most crowded is on the island of Java, Jakarta in particular. It's all been listened to," said Badrus Zeman, vocalist of Lorjhu when met at Pondok Labu, South Jakarta recently.

"And thank God, in my opinion, in regional language, it is possible for people to listen even though they don't know what that means. Yes, there are many interesting experiences, including if you perform, you are also sometimes wary, in terms of whether people can enjoy it," he continued.

"Because in my opinion, what about the language constraint, especially since we are not performing in our own village. But thank God I'm sure, and thank God the language is still accepted."

Furthermore, Badrus also talked about the existence of Ibu Records, the music label that helped him introduce works to the public more broadly. He believes there is still a lot of potential in various regions that can do the same.

"Because if we look at it so far, not all regions can enter the national music industry, it must still be a commodity in each region. But, hopefully through Ibu Records, with contemporary music, with modern music packaged with its locality, hopefully it can help friends in other regions with their respective regional languages," concluded Badrus Zeman.
