Duff McKagan Talks About Rock Music Future And His Relationship With Iggy Pop

JAKARTA - Duff McKagan expressed his hope that one day there will be guitar-oriented bands that have an impact like Guns N 'Roses.

In a new interview with Classic Rock, the bassist discussed the future of rock'n'roll and he expressed his views on everything that remains optimistic.

"Oh my God, I hope so," he said. I saw these young people coming to the Guns N 'Roses show, and I thought, 'Wow, it's really cool you came to watch us, but there should be a band 21 or 22 years old that makes you crazy'. I don't know if it will be the same, but I hope so."

On the other hand of the same interview, he explained in detail about his long-standing music relationship with Iggy Pop.

As is known, McKagan appeared on the album Brick By Brick (1990) and the new punk rocker album, Every Loser. In return, Pop is a guest star on McKagan's latest solo album, Lighthouse.

"For me, there is Prince and there is Lemmy and there is Iggy," added McKagan. "And Iggy is a god for me it's hard for me to have a regular relationship with him, because he has been my hero since I was 12 or 13 years old and I know The Stoges."

Earlier when I played in his album in the early 1990s, I was drinking. I was a little more, 'Yes, of course, man!' But involved in his last album now, and playing a concert with him [in April 2023], he was a hard worker. He looks like James Brown in the way he runs a band," he continued.

He has a band, namely me and [drumer Red Hot Chili peppers] Chad Smith and Jamie [Hance, guitarist] of The Kills and [guitarist/producer] Andrew Watt. We are professionals, you know. But he will call Chad by the designation drum player. He will say, 'Okay friends, get together. Drum player! Can you do it optimisticly?

She asked one of the other men to smoke. 'Maybe you should smoke on that song.' I thought, 'I really hope I'm not asked to smoke on that song.'

"But he's very good at running a band, and he really appreciates musicians. And my two daughters really like him. They came to a concert, and I saw him in the corner chatting with them, just go ahead. He's a nice and versatile guy.
