And Noel Gallagher Also Criticized VAR And Called Howard Webb A "Disaster"

JAKARTA - Noel Gallagher criticized the use of video-assisted refereeing (VAR) in the Premier League and also called Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) chairman Howard Webb “a disaster”.

Noel, a Manchester City fan, saw his team lose 0-1 to Arsenal at the weekend. He then spoke to talkSPORT about Tottenham's 2-1 win over Liverpool last week after Luis Diaz was wrongly deemed offside following a VAR error.

The referring association, PGMOL, apologized to Liverpool, releasing audio to discuss how the error occurred as part of greater transparency that PGMOL Chairman Howard had previously promised.

Noel, however, has strong opinions about Webb and VAR. When asked about his mistakes at Liverpool last week, this is what Noel said about Webb.

"What I will say is, Howard Webb, because he was called in to solve the problem, this is an absolute disaster," said Noel.

“Nobody wants VAR, it kills the atmosphere on the pitch, they can't get it right," continued the musician.

“For the life of me I don't understand why they don't use the same system as they use in the Champions League, I don't understand why (Premier League clubs voted against it).”

“It seems really definitive and fan-friendly, I imagine the system here will be thrown away. What about the 60 thousand people in the ground? If football isn't about the fans, then it's not about anything.”

Noel later joked, “the only good thing about VAR was against Liverpool.”
