Dave Grohl's Grief Over The Death Of Neil Peart

JAKARTA - The drummer for the progressive rock band Rush, Neil Peart, has died at the age of 67 after giving up fighting brain cancer. A number of world musicians paid tribute to the man from Canada, including Dave Grohl, former Nirvana drummer and frontman of Foo Fighters.

Peart died on Tuesday, January 7 in Santa Monica, California. But, Rush management and personnel; Geddy Lee (vocals, bass, synthesizer) and Alex Lifeson (guitar) just announced via social media on Friday.

"It is with broken hearts and deep sadness that we have to share the bad news that on Tuesday our friend, soul mate and bandmate of 45 years, Neil, lost his incredible 3.5 year battle against brain cancer (Glioblastoma)," read Rush's official statement on his Instagram account.

Rush then asked the Pearts for privacy: "We ask friends, fans and the media alike to respect the family's need for privacy and peace at this painful and difficult time. Those who wish to offer their condolences can choose a cancer research group or charity and make a donation. on behalf of Neil. "

"Rest in peace my brother," Rush's statement concluded.

Grohl, who inducted Rush in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 7 years ago, paid tribute to Peart by writing:

"Today, the world is missing the true giants of rock & roll history. An inspiration to millions with an unmistakable sound gave birth to generations of musicians (like myself) to take the sticks (drums) and pursue dreams. Good, wise, brilliant people rule our radios and turntables with not only the drums, but also the beautiful words. "

Grohl continues: "I still vividly remember the first time I listened to 2112 when I was young. It was the first time I had actually heard a drummer. And since that day, the music has never been the same. The power, accuracy, and composition were not. He was called 'Professor' for a reason: We all learn from him.

"Thank you, Neil, for making our lives a better place with your music. You will be forever remembered and missed by all of us. And my sincere condolences to the Rush family.

"God bless Neil Peart."

Meanwhile Grohl's bandmate, drummer Taylor Hawkins commented briefly: "Neil Peart has God's hands. Story ends."

Rush has been inactive since finishing the "R40 Live" tour four years ago. Peart has previously said that playing concerts at his age causes too much painful wear and tear on his body and he would rather stop before his performances begin to deteriorate in quality.

Lee and Lifeson repeatedly said Rush would never perform unless the three musicians agreed to take part. They haven't performed as Rush without Peart since he joined the band in 1974.

During Rush's first six years of existence, John Rutsey was behind the drum kit and he played on the band's self-titled debut album.

In 1997, Peart and his bandmates became the first rock musicians to be inducted into the Order of Canada (the highest merit star in the civilian honor system in Canada).

Meanwhile. Former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy recently dismissed rumors that he was going to tour with Lee and Lifeson as a replacement for Peart.

Portnoy was responding to fake reports from a Spanish website posted on Día De Los Santos Inocentes (Holy Innocents' Day), which takes place on December 28 and is celebrated as a kind of Spanish April Fool's Day.

The drummer, who is now active with the band Sons Of Apollo, previously discussed the possibility of a collaboration with Lee and Lifeson in an interview with Eric Blair of "The Blairing Out With Eric Blair Show" in January 2019.
