JAKARTA - PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM) is optimistic that the gasoline-powered motorcycle market in Indonesia will still grow by 2026. This optimism is driven by positive signals since the beginning of the year, especially from the middle-to-low-income consumer segment.
Director of Marketing PT Astra Honda Motor Octavianus Dwi Putro, estimated that the total national motorcycle market this year is in the range of 6.5 million to 6.7 million units. This figure is slightly higher than last year which was around 6.4 million units.
"If you look at the early signs of the year, it should be slightly better. Last year was around 6.4 million units, this year is likely to be 6.5 to 6.7 million units. So there is a slight increase, but it is still increasing," said Octa at the IIMS 2026 event, not long ago.
According to Octa, one of the factors that have the potential to drive the market is the impact of the government's economic program which is expected to be able to strengthen people's purchasing power, especially in the lower segment. He added, the economic dynamics are still ongoing, as seen from a number of indicators that show growth, although some other sectors are still facing pressure.
"We hope that the impact of the economic program of the Prabowo government is positive for the lower segment. And we have felt it a little in the fourth quarter to January 2026. In the lower segment, we can see movement from the side of purchasing power," he explained.
"PMI or Manufacturing Index is above 50, which means there is growth. There are indeed pluses and minuses such as farmers' NTP which has fallen, but overall the market should be slightly better," continued Octa.
In terms of company performance, AHM recorded a wholesale figure in the range of 4.9 million to 5 million units throughout last year. This figure was slightly corrected compared to the previous period, but the difference was considered insignificant.
"For wholesale, it is approximately 4.975 to 5 million units. It is a little down, but almost the same. The difference is very small," said Octa.
He also emphasized that industrially, the national motorcycle market still shows growth if referring to distribution data. "If you look at the data from AISI, the total market actually did not fall, it is still growing," said Octa.
"We try to keep filling the market's needs, but at the same time maintaining a healthy level of stock in the network. Because the AISI data is distribution, so stock balance is also important," he concluded.
