JAKARTA - Efforts to maintain the environment are no longer synonymous with large-scale actions. Simple steps from home can have a wide impact. This is what PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM) together with Honda motorcycle Main Dealers throughout Indonesia is encouraging by inviting 1,621 young people to apply a sustainable lifestyle through decluttering practices.
The movement to sort and manage these unused items is carried out simultaneously in the series of programs Berpacu Dalam Sinergi. The goal is to create a cleaner and more comfortable environment, as well as reduce the volume of waste that ends up in landfills.
Through this activity, participants are invited to be smarter in managing personal items, ranging from grouping by category, determining what items are still needed, to distributing unused items responsibly.
The practice is expected to extend the use cycle of goods and encourage a circular economy through environmentally friendly steps such as reuse, repair, and upcycling. The decluttering education was held directly at nine high schools and 11 universities in various regions from August to the end of the year.
The material is delivered by a community of environmental activists, combining theory and practice with a relaxed approach so that it is easy to understand. Participants are also equipped with practical tips that can be applied directly in daily life.
Participants were also invited to experience a full day of sustainable living. They were accustomed to using non-plastic tumblers that are safe and can be used for the long term, as well as tote bags made from environmentally friendly materials during the event.
"We hope that this joint movement can be an inspiration for more people, so that collectively we can present a cleaner, beneficial environment, and indirectly participate in building the country through a sustainable circular economy," said General Manager of Corporate Communication AHM Ahmad Muhibbuddin, quoted from the official statement, Wednesday, December 24.
During this program, the participants' activities are also supported by Honda Scoopy scooters that are known to be close to the lifestyle of young people. Its fashionable design reinforces its image as a mobility partner as well as a symbol of the positive trends of today's generation.
AHM's commitment to environmental preservation does not stop at decluttering education. Since 2012, the company has collaborated with various parties in a greening program that has resulted in the planting of 276,180 trees in various regions of Indonesia.
On the operational side, green commitments are also implemented through the use of renewable energy. Since 2014, AHM has used solar panels as an alternative energy source at a number of facilities, ranging from the Karawang and Cikarang factories, the Deltamas Safety Riding & Training Center, the Part Center, to the newest factory at Deltamas.
