JAKARTA - In the midst of the widespread electrification of two-wheelers in the country, Yamaha is still choosing to be patient. Although it is one of the largest motorcycle manufacturers in Indonesia, this fork-tallow logo manufacturer has not yet officially marketed its electric motorcycle to domestic consumers.

Public Relations Manager, YRA & Community PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing Rifki Maulana, explained that Yamaha is still looking for the most appropriate formula before actually entering the national electric motorcycle market.

"Yes, we are still looking. As we have said before, Yamaha is still looking for the most effective and appropriate moment for the Indonesian people," said Rifki to reporters in Jakarta, not long ago.

In fact, from the side of product readiness, Yamaha Motor Corporation actually has a fairly complete portfolio of battery electric vehicles (BEV). Several models have even been marketed in various countries, both through direct sales schemes and rental systems.

However, according to Rifki, Yamaha does not want to be hasty. Quality, safety, and price factors are the main considerations of the Japanese manufacturer before releasing it to the market.

"As a brand, we attach great importance to quality. That means there must be a guarantee of safety and also a reasonable price. We know ourselves, the price of electric motorcycles tends to be higher than conventional engine motorcycles," he explained.

On the other hand, the reality of the Indonesian market today is still very sensitive to price. Many consumers still place a cheap price tag as the main factor in buying a vehicle.

Actually, Yamaha is not without a footprint in Indonesia. Two electric motorcycles, the Yamaha E01 and the Yamaha Neo's, were presented in the country but were only used for internal research and testing purposes, not for sale to the public.

"For now, we can't provide more details regarding Yamaha's electric motorcycle launch plans in Indonesia," added Rifki.

Meanwhile, in the global market Yamaha continues to expand its electrification line. Most recently, the Japanese manufacturer launched the Yamaha Aerox-E and Yamaha EC-06 for the Indian market, as well as the Yamaha Jog E in Japan, complementing existing electric models.

"Aerox-E was developed specifically for the Indian market. So, for Indonesia itself, there are currently no plans to launch the model," he concluded.
