JAKARTA The purchasing power of consumers in the two-wheeled market is indeed under pressure, but the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) is still looking optimistic about the achievement of this year's sales targets.
AISI targets the distribution of national motorcycles to be in the range of 6.4 to 6.7 million units throughout 2025. As of the January 'August period, sales were recorded at 4.26 million units, a slight decline of 1.7 percent year-on-year compared to the same period last year of 4.34 million units.
Even so, AISI Chairman Johannes Loman emphasized that his party did not plan to revise the target. "We have not changed the target because until August 2025 the figure is relatively the same as last year, only 1.7 percent corrected," he said when met in the Jakarta area, Wednesday, September 10.
He is optimistic that sales in the second half will be better, along with seasonal factors and government policies. "Historically, the second semester is always more positive. Better harvests and increased government spending are expected to boost economic growth, so that the two-wheeled market is boosted," he explained.
However, Loman also highlighted the challenges, one of which was the implementation of tax opents in a number of areas which caused motor prices to rise. We urge that opsen not be increased excessively or the incentives are reduced drastically. If consumer purchasing power drops, the market will weaken and ultimately have an impact on regional income," he said.
