BYD is preparing an update for the Ti7 plug-in hybrid crossover in the Chinese market by presenting a larger lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, namely 50 kWh. The new battery pack is claimed to be able to deliver a range of up to 230 km in electric mode based on the WLTC standard.

In the domestic market, this model is marketed under the name Fang Cheng Bao Ti7, while the global version has already been launched this year. Currently, the BYD Ti7 PHEV marketed in China is available in two battery options.

The basic variant is equipped with a 26.6 kWh battery that offers an electric range of up to 105 km (WLTC), while the higher version uses a 35.6 kWh battery with the ability to travel as far as 140 km in electric mode. Now, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT) has revealed the presence of a new variant with a longer range through its official homologation document.

The latest version uses a 50 kWh LFP battery produced by BYD subsidiary FinDreams. This battery weighs 384 kg, or about 164 kg heavier than the battery pack on the standard version of the Ti7 PHEV.

Depending on the drive system, the vehicle's empty weight is in the range of 2,350 to 2,530 kg. For the rear-wheel drive variant, the BYD Ti7 relies on a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 115 kW (154 hp) power coupled with an electric motor with 200 kW (268 hp).

Launching from Carnewschina, Wednesday, July 15, the combination allows vehicles to travel up to 230 km in electric mode based on the WLTC cycle. When the battery capacity is almost depleted, the fuel consumption is claimed to reach 5.98 liters per 100 km.

Meanwhile, the all-wheel drive (AWD) variant offers an electric range of up to 210 km with a fuel consumption of around 6.3 liters per 100 km. The configuration still uses a 1.5-liter engine, but is combined with two electric motors that produce a combined power of up to 360 kW or equivalent to 483 hp.

This variant is also said to have the potential to be equipped with flash charging technology that allows battery charging from 10 percent to 97 percent in just nine minutes. The BYD Ti7 PHEV for the domestic market comes as a five-passenger SUV with dimensions of 4,999 mm long, 1,995 mm wide, 1,865 mm high, and a wheelbase of 2,920 mm.

This vehicle also has the ability to tow loads (towing) up to 2,000 kg. In addition to the plug-in hybrid version, BYD also offers the Ti7 in a pure electric (BEV) variant. The model is available with a choice of 92 kWh and 105.7 kWh batteries that can provide a range of 675 to 755 km based on the CLTC standard.

Based on data from China EV DataTracker, BYD Ti7 has recorded sales of 94,417 units in China. This achievement makes it one of the best-selling models in the domestic market, even though it was hit by issues related to its panoramic glass roof.
