JAKARTA - BYD continues to mature its strategy to bring the Racco electric microcar to the Japanese market. Previously, the brand had recruited former Nissan engineer, Hirohide Tagawa.
It seems that everything is going well now and it is reported that the Chinese company EV Times will launch a small car on July 28, 2026, according to a report by Carnewschina, quoted, Monday, July 13.
This micro car uses a special design with a length of 3,395 mm, a width of 1,475 mm, and a height of 1,800 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,520 mm.
The series offers two different performance configurations to serve specific urban driving profiles. The 200 variant combines a 22.4 kWh battery with an official operating range of 210 km based on the local WLTC test cycle. The upgrade to the 300 series provides a larger configuration of 35.84 kWh, extending the driving range to 320 km.
This performance demonstrates an increase in capacity compared to the initial regulatory baseline range validated during the prototype phase.
There are several other advantages offered, including the modular rear seat row can be folded completely flat, opening up a cargo space of up to 1,372 liters for a short-distance commercial delivery configuration.
The cabin is also equipped with a digital NFC key, automatic battery preheating for driving in winter, and a heated glass holder layout.
As for the price, Racco is estimated to be priced starting at around 2.5 million yen or equivalent to Rp. 278 million. Will it be able to become a flagship in the Japanese market?
