JAKARTA - Chery officially entered the electric pickup truck arena through the launch of Himla EV on January 27, 2026. This model is the first electric pickup truck under the Himla brand umbrella (Rely R08), as well as a serious signal from Chery to work on the medium-sized commercial vehicle segment which has been dominated by Toyota Hilux.

As reported by Carnewschina, Wednesday, January 28, the Himla EV is offered starting at 127,800 yuan or Rp307 million in China. A relatively aggressive price for an electric pickup truck with a body on frame concept.

With this price tag, Chery presents a versatile vehicle that is designed not only for heavy work, but also to support a lifestyle. Consumers are offered a choice of rear-wheel drive (RWD) to all-wheel drive (AWD).

In appearance, the Himla EV looks firm with the typical boxy body lines of a modern pickup truck. The front fascia is decorated with a large polygonal grille with a black honeycomb motif, combined with the RELY logo displayed on the hood.

Chery also provides two configurations of the trunk, the standard version has a total length of 5,330 mm, while the long box variant reaches 5,610 mm. For the cargo area, the regular version trunk measures 1,530 mm, while the long version extends to 1,810 mm, with a uniform width of 1,620 mm in both variants.

Entering the cabin, the cabin atmosphere feels more like an electric SUV than a commercial vehicle. The combination of light brown and black colors creates a premium feel, reinforced by chrome accents at a number of points.

The dashboard is centered on a 12.3-inch or 15.6-inch touchscreen, depending on the variant. This panel is the center of control for infotainment, vehicle settings, and other digital features. The three-spoke steering wheel with multifunction buttons also completes the cockpit, making operation more practical.

For the highest variant, Himla EV is equipped with an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) package, ranging from adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, to automatic emergency braking. The presence of these features confirms that Himla EV is not just a work pickup, but also comfortable for long-distance travel.

In the driving sector, the Himla EV relies entirely on an electric motor. The RWD version carries a 150 kW motor or the equivalent of 201 hp with 350 Nm of torque, and claims an acceleration of 0-100 km/h in the range of 8.8 seconds.

Meanwhile, the AWD variant combines two electric motors with a total power of 300 kW (about 402 hp) and 540 Nm of torque. Thanks to this configuration, the Himla EV AWD is able to sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 5 seconds, an impressive figure for the pickup class.

In terms of cruising range, Chery offers two battery options, namely 66.54 kWh and 88 kWh. The driving range is claimed to be in the range of 405 km to more than 500 km, depending on the variant and drive system.
