Robotaxi Luxury Level 4 Based On Mercedes-Benz S-Class New Landing In Abu Dhabi

JAKARTA The era of autonomous luxury mobility is one step ahead with the announcement of the launch of the Robotaxi level or level 4 developed above today's latest Mercedes-Benz S-Class platform.

This ambitious project is the result of collaboration between Mercedes-Benz, China's autonomous driving company Momenta, and UAE mobility operator Lumo.

By leveraging the S-Class, which is an ideal combination of luxury, safety, and advanced technology, Mercedes-Benz is now ready to offer SAE's unrivaled charteured (disopiri) experience in the market.

The Robotaxi Mercedes-Benz S-Class is claimed to be the first luxury autonomous mobility product in the industry to be built on a production vehicle platform.

The luxury S-Class robotaxi will begin the first phase of trials in Abu Dhabi, before being planned to be launched more widely in other markets in the future.

This collaboration takes advantage of Momenta's unique expertise, which focuses on reusing mass production vehicle platforms for its service deployment. Supported by the fundamental model of learning strengthening Momenta R6, the company implements a pile of software and a suite of integrated sensors across L2 and L4 systems. This approach allows acceleration of scale improvement and commercialization.

The partnership between Mercedes and Momenta has a long history. Since 2017, Mercedes has been the first international carmaker to invest in Momenta.

Prior to the deployment in Abu Dhabi, the two companies had launched joint achievements in China. In September, a jointly developed smart driving assistance system based on the Momenta Flywheel model was mounted on a new all-electric Mercedes CLA, which was launched in November. The system allows intelligently assisted drivers from parking lot to parking lot across all highway, urban, and parking scenarios.

In December 2021, Mercedes-Benz will also be the world's first car manufacturer to receive internationally valid system approval for conditional auto-driven (SAE 3). Their DRIVE PILOT system is the world's fastest Level 3 system, with a target capability of up to 130 km/hour in the next five years.
