JAKARTA Kia has decided to postpone the launch of its newest electric sedan, EV4, in the United States market indefinitely. In fact, this car was previously scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2026.
In its official statement, Kia said that the change in the market conditions of electric vehicles was the main reason behind the decision.
"Due to the changing dynamics of the EV market, the launch of the EV4 electric sedan was delayed until further notice," Kia's statement was quoted as saying by Carbuzz, Saturday, November 1.
Kia EV4 was first introduced at an automotive exhibition in the United States in April 2025. The electric sedan uses a 400-volt E-GMP platform and is designed to offer efficient performance and a more dynamic design.
The car will be available in two battery options, namely the 58 kWh version with a distance of about 235 miles, and the 81 kWh variant which can cover up to 330 miles.
The base price of EV4 in the United States market is estimated to start at $39,000, or approximately IDR 648 million.

Although there has been no confirmation whether this model will be completely canceled, a number of observers believe Kia's decision reflects the serious challenges electric vehicle manufacturers face in the American market.
Factors such as eliminating tax incentives, increasing import rates, and decreasing consumer interest in EVs are said to be the main cause.

EV4 was previously seen as a potential challenger for the Tesla Model 3 due to a competitive price combination and modern features. However, with this delay, Kia appears to be reviewing its product strategy before continuing its steps in the market.
Until now, Kia has not provided a new schedule for EV4 launches in the United States.
This decision adds to the long list of automotive manufacturers who adjust electrification plans due to increasingly uncertain market conditions.
