JAKARTA British automotive startup Longbow officially introduced a prototype of a light electric sports car titled the Longbow Speedster. This car is claimed to weigh under 1,000 kilograms.

Launching from Carscoops, Friday, October 31, this model is designed as a two-seat vehicle with an open design and high performance. At the same time, it shows Longbow's ambition to present electric cars that prioritize driving pleasure.

Longbow CEO and Co-founder Daniel Zay, stated that the Speedster project departed from the vision to create a Featherweight Electric Vehicle (FEV) or ultra-light electric vehicle that combines classic sports car sensations with modern technology.

Excess bots invite complexity, reduce agility, and collect driving sensations. We want to create electric cars that return to essence: light, fast, and fun," said Davey.

The Longbow Speedster prototype features a concept without a roof and without a windshield, making it purely a speedster that highlights the direct connection between the driver and the road. Weighing only 895 kilograms, this car can fly from 0 to 100 km/hour in about 3.5 seconds.

In addition to impressive performance, Speedster is claimed to be able to cover a distance of up to 443 kilometers based on WLTP standards. This version of car production will be marketed in the UK at a price ranging from 84,995 pounds, which is equivalent to around Rp1.85 billion.

This project is in the spotlight because its development is going very fast. Within just six months of the concept stage, Longbow managed to create a demonstration unit that could be driven, marking an extraordinary achievement in the pace of developing electric car performance.

Another Longbow co-founder, Mark Tapscott, explained that their design philosophy was inspired by the principle of simplify and add lightness' popularized by Lotus founder Colin Chapman.

Many modern electric cars are too heavy and lose their sport character. We want to restore that taste," said Tapscott.

Longbow was founded by an experienced team that previously worked in various well-known car manufacturers, including electric car developers and performance vehicles such as Tesla. Their focus is simple: creating electric cars that are not only efficient, but also providing a true driving sensation.

Even though it's only in the prototype stage, Longbow insists that the production version will retain its lightweight and dynamic character. Further trials will be conducted to ensure driving performance, durability, and comfort before entering the mass production stage.
