BYD Prepares Kei Electric Car Futuristic For Japanese Market, Launches This Month

JAKARTA BYD is preparing to shake up the Tokyo Motor Show 2025 with an unexpected surprise. The Chinese car manufacturer will launch a tiny futuristic-faced electric car that is claimed to be a new challenger in the Japanese kei car segment.

This car appears with a kei car compact design in Japan, but carries a modern touch typical of BYD. Its body forms brain with a firm line, long-wheeled axis, and short overhang on the front and back, creating an efficient and functional proportion.

Not to forget, the sliding door behind adds to the ease of access for users in dense urban areas, as reported by Carnewschina, Wednesday, October 22. Enter the cabin, modern nuances are immediately felt.

BYD presents a complete three-stop steering with heating features, a digital instrument display, and a floating-style center-of-principle center. Pillar A is equipped with a triangular small window to expand visibility, while the unified front seat design strengthens the field and futuristic impression.

In terms of performance, this tiny electric car is equipped with a Blade Battery battery with a capacity of about 20 kWh, capable of traveling a distance of up to 180 kilometers based on the WLTC cycle. This distance is fairly ideal for daily use in big cities like Tokyo, with efficiency and practicality as the main selling value.

This electric kei car model was developed specifically for the Japanese market and is proof of BYD's seriousness in adapting to local needs and regulations. The project is also part of their global commitment to reduce the earth's temperature by one degree Celsius.

Although BYD has not confirmed whether this model will be marketed outside Japan, its presence clearly marks a new chapter for Japan's automotive industry, which is now starting to open up to innovation from foreign manufacturers.
