JAKARTA Mini shows its creative side by launching two very unique special edition John Cooper Works (JCW) hatchbacks. Collaborating with the popular lifestyle label, Deus Ex Machina, Mini created a pair of cars called Machina and Skeg, respectively. Both are designed as a tribute to DNA racing Mini, but in a very contrasting style.

Although one of them is powered by gasoline and the other is electric, both have the same dramatic appearance. This one-off design features a wider body, custom interior, and striking graphics that make it difficult to miss.

These two hatchbacks still use a standard JCW drivetrain. Machina relies on a 2.0 liter turbocharged four cylinder engine that produces 228 hp and 380 Nm torque. Meanwhile, all-electric Skeg produces 255 hp and 350 Nm torque.

"MINI's MOdel has always been characterized by a combination of creative design and motor sports dynamics. Thanks to our collaboration with Deus Ex Machina, we are bringing this philosophy to a new level and creating an exciting new trend for motorcycle sports fans and fans. ," explained MINI leader Stefan Richmann, in BMW's media space, Wednesday, September 3.

The MINI JCW x DEUS collaboration will not be sold but will be exhibited at MINI Pavilion at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich until September 14.

Machina: Livery Racing With Bodi Is More Fierce

Mini Machina was built to take inspiration from the world of racing track. The appearance is wrapped in a red, white, and black livery that is aggressive.

The exterior changes include a very wide overfender, retro-style lights on the hood of the machine, custom grip, Can-Am-style rear wing, and a larger diffuser. The headlights are also modified with LED blades, providing space for additional airways.

In the cabin, the nuances of racing are getting thicker. The interior is stripped-out or naked, leaving only a racing seat with a five-point seat belt, three-stop steering wheel, exposed aluminum floor plate, and roll cage. This car is even equipped with a hydraulic handbrake lever and a row of switches on the center console, replacing the menu on the usual circular touch screen.

Skeg: Full Color Surfing Style

In total, the JCW Electric-based Mini Skeg, takes a relaxed and coastal lifestyle approach. The silver, black, and yellow livery is combined with a raw fiberglass panel that gives the impression of a surfboard.

The body display is even more extreme than Machina. The phander extension made of see-through fiberglass is claimed to reduce weight by 15 percent. The front grid is covered with neon lights and seven circular holes at the bottom, providing a more cheerful touch. Its appearance is refined with a bright yellow whistle, a bright yellow diffuser, and a large "Flex Tip Surf Spoiler" roof wing.

The interior is no less unique, with semi-transparent fiberglass panels, neoprene-coated racing seat, and rope as a substitute for the door handle. In fact, a surfboard is placed on the back of the roof, tied with a yellow rope that is also visible from the outside. The Mini designer also added a special balance of fiberglass to put the wet clothes on.
