JAKARTA The legendary model Volvo XC70 has officially returned to the automotive market, but is in a completely new form. This car has now evolved into a plug-in hybrid SUV (PHEV) with extraordinary electric travel capabilities, designed to lead the Volvo transition to full electrification.
Launching information from the manufacturer's website, today, Volvo claims, this latest XC70 is capable of traveling more than 200 kilometers (about 124 miles) only with electricity, making it the longest-range PHEV in the Volvo ranks as well as in the current market. Meanwhile, the combined distance of the gasoline and electric motor engine is even claimed to be capable of reaching more than 1,200 kilometers (about 745 miles).
The latest XC70 is a very attractive choice for consumers who want to benefit from driving with electric power, but are not yet fully ready to switch to pure electric cars. This model is one of the main pillars in our electrification vehicle portfolio, as well as a bridge to electric cars entirely for customers. Its presence will also strengthen our position in the world's largest automotive market," said Volvo CEO Hzarkan Samuelsson.

Although the technical details have not been fully disclosed, Volvo confirms that XC70 is built on the new version of the Scalable Modular Architecture (SMA) platform. From Chinese government documents, it is known that this car combines a 160-hp 160-powered 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor, powered by a choice of 21.2 kWh or 39.64 kWh batteries.
The charging system is also very efficient. The battery can be charged from 0 to 80 percent in just 23 minutes using fast charging. Uniquely, XC70 also supports the bi-directional charging feature, a feature that is still rarely found in PHEV vehicles.
In dimension, XC70 is 4815 mm long and 1890 mm wide, making it comparable to BMW X5.
In terms of appearance, XC70 adopted Volvo's latest design language, with a minimalist touch reminiscent of XC90 and EX90 electricity. The front Fascia features a closed culling typical of Volvo electric vehicles, which is also equipped with an active grip cover to optimize aerodynamics.
In the cabin, XC70 offers 12-inch digital instruments, a landscape-oriented 15.4-inch touch screen, as well as a 91-inch augmented reality head-up display (AR HUD) option.
For the initial stage, XC70 production has started in China, and this model is already available for bookings there.
