Acura Introduces RSX EV Prototype, First Self-made Electric Car Full Of Surprise

JAKARTA - Acura, the luxury car division and performance of North American car manufacturer Japan Honda has officially made its global debut prototype of RSX, an electric SUV that marks a new chapter for the company.

The RSX prototype debut was carried out at the Monterey Car Week event and the production model will be present in the second half of next year.

Quoted from the manufacturer's website, today, different from ZDX which is the result of collaboration, RSX is the first fully designed, developed, and produced electric vehicle by Honda and Acura.

This prototype, based on Acura Performance EV concept, promises a combination of strong brand performance, technology, and heritage.

RSX is also the first electric vehicle to be built at the Honda EV Hub in Ohio, a facility that also assembles Acura Integra. In addition, this car will be the first model to use a new global EV platform from Honda and an advanced Asimo operating system, which will manage the infotainment system, driver assistance features (ADAS), to driver personalization.

Physically, it was reported that Motortrend, the RSX prototype looks quite large, the size of the Acura RDX is gasoline-powered, but with running and aerodynamic design lines like a Ferrari Purosangue. Wrapped in a striking color of Yellow Pearl Propulsion, the front features a typical Acura fasia, while at the back, the iconic "A" logo is replaced with the words "ACURA" in modern fonts.

Behind a 21-inch wheel, it is clearly visible that the red Brembo brake cap is sporty. This prototype is also equipped with a NACS (North American Charging Standard) charging port or Tesla-style plug, promising convenience in long-distance ownership and travel. Equally interesting, Acura said that RSX will have bi-directional charging capabilities, allowing owners to power household equipment or even the entire house.

Although details about the interior, performance specifications, and travel distance are still a mystery, Acura has confirmed that all RSX variants will come in standard with a sporty double A-arm front suspension, a Brembo brake, and a four-wheeled motorist. The production version of the car is scheduled to arrive in the second half of next year. Speculation about the possibility of the presence of the Type S variant is also blowing fast, especially given the presence of the existing MDX Type S and ZDX Type S.

Regarding the name "RSX", Acura gave a logical explanation. This name was previously used for Integra coupe in the North American market, but only lasted one generation. With Integra's return, the name RSX is now free and is well adapted to the Acura SUV naming scheme that uses the "X" end (such as RDX and MDX), marking a new beginning for this brand in the electrification era.
