Ferrari F40 Most Expensive Auctioned At Monterey Car Week, Predicted To Sell Above IDR 140 Billion

JAKARTA - The annual Monterey Car Week event which is currently taking place in the United States is again in the spotlight for world automotive collectors. Known as a haven for rare and exotic cars, this festival will be enlivened by a number of prestigious auction houses.

One of the main stars of Monterey Car Week is a very rare legendary car unit: Ferrari F40 LM 1993 by Michelotto from RM Sotheby's auction house, with an estimated price of between 8.5 million US dollars to 9.5 million US dollars (around Rp138 billion-Rp 154 billion). This car will open its official offer on August 16.

Not Ordinary F40

Referring to the official information on the auction house, this auctioned Ferrari F40 is not the standard version. This car is one of only 19 units of F40 modified specifically for the race by Michelotto, a legendary consulting firm that also plays a role in the success of the Ferrari 333 SP and 288 GTO. This modification turns the already wild F40 into an unrivaled trajectory monster.

When launched in 1987, the standard F40 was already stunning with a twin-turbo V8 engine that generated 478 stances. However, this version of LM is much more extreme. With the specifications of the "GTC" for racing in the FIA-GT European series, the engine was upgraded to produce 760 stances, nearly 300 hp higher than the original version. This increase was obtained thanks to the larger Behr intercooler, revised camshaft, modified fuel management system, and boosted turbo boosters.

Apart from machines, modifications are also made to other parts. The chassis is reinforced with larger Brembo brakes, wider rims, and lower altitudes. The display is also overhauled with aggressive aerodynamics, including large front spoilers, larger cooling ventilation, and massive and regulateable rear wings.

This auctioned unit has a chassis number 95448 and is the 14th unit made by Michelotto. The car already has a well-documented history, including the Ferrari Classiche certification in 2009 which proves the authenticity of the engine, transmission, and body of the car.

Throughout his life, this car was owned by several leading collectors and had participated in various historical racing events. At its peak, this car recently won the "Ferrari: Passion and Performance Collection" class award at the 2025 ModaMiami concourse event.

For collectors looking for the rarest and most powerful F40 cars, this unit is an unlikely choice. With its brutal performance and status as one of the 19 units ever made, this Ferrari F40 LM is not just a car, but a masterpiece of a very valuable automotive history.
