JAKARTA - The pure electric SUV market in China will welcome a new model from Aito, a brand created by a collaboration between Huawei and Seres Group.
Aito is ready to launch a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) version of its flagship M8 SUV in August. This move is certain to heat up competition in a segment currently under scrutiny by major automotive manufacturers.
As reported by CnEVPost on Tuesday, July 15, the arrival of the Aito M8 BEV will add a new player to the electric SUV market, following the launch of the Li Auto Li i8, scheduled for July 29, and the Onvo L90—a model from the Nio sub-brand—which will launch at the end of the month. These three models appear to be vying for consumer attention in this fast-growing market.

The M8 was first introduced on April 16 as a mid-size SUV in the Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) version, priced at 359,800 yuan (approximately Rp817 million). The BEV version will come with a choice of five or six seats, and its dimensions remain the same: 5,190 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, 1,795 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 3,105 mm.
What makes this new variant interesting is the 800-volt high-voltage Huawei Giant Whale platform it uses, combined with a 100 kWh battery from CATL. This combination allows the car to travel up to 705 km according to CLTC test standards.

Furthermore, the Aito M8 BEV will be equipped with various smart technologies from Huawei, such as a 192-channel main LiDAR, a high-precision solid-state LiDAR at the rear, and five 4D millimeter-wave radars. This system supports active safety features, intelligent driving assistance, and automatic parking capabilities. It also features an extra-large front trunk, which is also a key attraction in its class.
The EREV version of the Aito M8, launched earlier, has received positive reviews. Now, it's the BEV variant's turn to make a splash. Will this all-electric model be able to repeat its success and pose a new threat amidst the fierce competition for electric SUVs in China?
