PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) has again held a Logistic Skill Contest which has entered its 14th event, carrying the spirit of 'Level Up Vendor to Achieve Asia Pacific Standard & Share Toyota Contribution to The Nation'.
The event is a commitment of TMMIN to strengthen and improve the competence of logistics partners in achieving the toughness of supply chains that are able to contribute on a national scale. Moreover, reflecting on Bappenas data, there is a high national logistics cost, even reaching 14.29 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2023. In addition, Indonesia's ranking in External Logistics Performance Index has decreased significantly, from 46 in 2018 to 63 in 2024 and reflects the need for comprehensive improvement.
TMMIN sees one of the main focuses is improving the quality of human resources in the logistics sector which is the main key. This step was taken to encourage more efficient, integrated and competitive economic growth.
As part of the national automotive industry, Toyota Indonesia realizes the importance of preparing competitive human resources (HR) in the face of industrial dynamics, including the 4.0 Industrial Revolution and the challenge of decarbonization towards Net Zero Emission.
"Logistics plays an important role in the smooth running of supply chains (sok chains), and in the midst of the increasingly tight level of competition for national automotive producers, logistics plays a major role in increasing competitiveness in all aspects, namely Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost," said TMMIN President Director Nandi Julyanto, in his official statement received, Monday, June 23.

He further expressed hope that vendor management could continue to improve Green Logistics activities which are currently starting to be carried out, such as Eco Driving Management, Eco Driving Behavior, and Truck Preventive Management.
"This activity not only reduces CO2 emissions, but also reduces vehicle fuel consumption, which will support the increase in the company's competitiveness", said Nandi.
The 2025 TMMIN Logistic Skill Contest was attended by 31 TMMIN logistics partners who played an important role in carrying out daily operations, including the management and delivery of goods. Currently, the total travel operations at TMMIN reaches 1,195 trips per day, consisting of 1,066 trips by 9 Logistic Partner- Milkrun (LP), 83 trips by 14 Trucking Company-Container (TC), and 28 trips by 5 Car Carrier (CC).
The application of eco-driving is the key to efficiency to minimize the carbon footprint of these activities. Therefore, since the beginning of the implementation of the skill contest, TMMIN has prioritized increasing the competence of logistics partners, including drivers as an effort to increase efficiency and safety.
Support The Smooth Production And Commitment Of Driving Safety
In 2025 a total of 1,155 participants from 30 companies participated in the TMMIN Logistic Skill Contest 2025 event. The categories contested in the Individual Skill Appreciation include Forklift Contest, Driving Contest, Container Yard Operation Contest, Master Trainer Contest, Kaizen Contest Manager and Best Operation Management. Not only that this year 'Master Tenko' became a new category, where this award was given based on a total assessment both individually and managerially related to the implementation of the work readiness management system both physically and mentally.
Vice President Director of TMMIN Bob Azam emphasized that his party always strives to ensure an efficient and safe operational system in each distribution, by emphasizing the importance of the role of human resources in safety aspects.
TMMIN Logistic Skill Contest is a means to strengthen the ability of all logistics actors in facing the challenges of the automotive and logistics sector. Safe driving safety factors and operation of logistical equipment are the keys that directly affect the smooth production and satisfaction of customers," said Bob Azam.
In addition to improving driver skills in driving safely, currently the logistics operations of TMMIN have implemented a digital application system initiated by TMMIN to monitor and prevent accidents. This system works to monitor the health condition of both physically and psychologically drivers in real-time to determine the driver's feasibility to carry out the task.
TMMIN will also continue to expand the system by adding artificial intelligence (AI)-based features capable of detecting signs of fatigue or lack of focus while driving. In addition, a Global Positioning System (GPS)-based driving behavior monitoring system will also be implemented to support eco-driving practices, as well as track the carbon footprint resulting from each trip.
Bob Azam hopes that logistics partners can properly implement the use of technology so that TMMIN and its supply chain can continue to be relevant and sustainable industries.
"Not only acting as a catalyst in the national automotive ecosystem that upholds driving safety and supports carbon neutrality, TMMIN and its supply chain can also realize its vision of becoming a National Supply Chain Role Model & The Best Logistic Operation in Asia Pacific," concluded Bob Azam.
