JAKARTA Nissan surprisingly launched its first Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) pickup truck, Frontier Pro, at the 2025 Shanghai Auto.

In the manufacturer's media space, today Wednesday, April 23, this latest model, based on Nissan Dongfeng Z9, combines Nissan's pickup truck legacy with advanced powertrain technology.

Frontier Pro comes with a distinctive "Rugged Tech" design, featuring a cut-off lampbar reminiscent of a three-slot design on the hood of the classic Nissan/Datsun D21 Hardbody engine. With a length of 5520 mm (217.3 inches), a width of 1960 mm (77.1 inches), and a height of 1950 mm (76.7 inches). While the wheels use 18-inch wheels and offer an electric pullable back tub cover option.

The PHEV Frontier Pro is powered by a 1.5 liter four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine in collaboration with an electric motor integrated with transmission, resulting in a combined output of more than 402 stances and 800 Nm torques. The truck is claimed to have a pure electric range of 135 kilometers based on CLTC testing cycles.
