JAKARTA - Toyota is recalling the 4-wheel drive Tacoma model in the United States, production from 2024 to 2025, which is equipped with a 16-inch brake rotor and 17-inch rim.

Quoting from Toyota USA's official website, Wednesday, February 12, around 106,000 models were affected in this withdrawal, where the problem is the braking system.

The back brake of the vehicle can be damaged over time, and it also allows for quite a lot of mud and dirt in the rear wheels, which makes it unable to work optimally, especially in certain off-road conditions. These problems can cause brake oil leakage, thereby increasing the risk of accidents when brake oil runs out, of course, very dangerous.

The Japanese brand designed the Tacoma rear brake hose to be placed inside and close to the new truck wheel rims for the 2024 model. However, the free distance is so narrow that over time mud and dirt can pile up inside the wheel, potentially hitting the brakes hose and damaging the material, causing a fluid leak.

Pickup trucks equipped with larger brakes covering a 17-inch rotor are not at risk, but Toyota is still investigating to see if a two-wheel drive model with small brakes and 17-inch rims, and a four-wheeled pickup truck with small brakes but 18-inch wheels may also require repairs.

The way to deal with it is to replace the rear brake hose with a new one, and Toyota doesn't charge customers for the fix.

This is the second big mistake experienced by new Tacoma, whose automatic transmission was found to be damaged in several models last year. However, Toyota is familiar with the product withdrawals needed to ensure its cars and trucks can slow down when needed.
