JAKARTA - Nissan has confirmed that the GT-R R35 sports car will be stopped production in 2025 in Japan. However, the manufacturer revealed the culprit behind the termination of this iconic model.

Global Vice President Product & Service Planning Nissan Motor Pierre Loing, said the 17-year shutdown of this model was due to increasingly stringent emission regulations for several markets.

"It's been on sale for 17 years and we want to keep it for another 17 years, but the regulator is blocking it," Loing said as quoted by Top Gear, Saturday, September 21.

Despite this, Loing revealed that the model will continue to be sold until the available stock has been sold out.

"For now, GT-R is still being sold," added Loing.

However, this does not leave Nissan alone to vacate the position left by GT-R. Loing said it would present its newest model in the next few years after production of the previous version was discontinued.

"Of course I want to have something to fill in that void. But if you look at GT-R history, the model has come with a fairly large year gap before," said Loing.

He took the example of several previous models that still carried the name of the previous generation Skyline GT-R, such as R34 which ended production in 2002 and took five years for the R35 version to appear in the global market.

We showed the GT-R concept in 2001, then ended production of the R34 Skyline GT-R in 2002. After that, the R35 was only launched in 2007," Loing explained.

Regarding the next generation GT-R, Loing hinted that the model will have a solid-state battery that has advanced capabilities and will become a agents of change in revolutionizing the electric vehicle segment.

"We are on our way to developing our first solid-state battery prototype for the spring of 2025. Meanwhile, we will have a prototype vehicle with the original battery two years later and by 2028 we want to sell vehicles with this technology, but in small quantities in Japan," Loing said.

It is estimated that the latest generation of GT-R is expected to take the basis of the Hyper Force concept car exhibited at the Japan Mobility Show at the end of last year with an aggressive and beautiful design.

For additional information, the Hyper Force has a four-wheel drive with an output of 1341 dk, double the GT-R R35 Nismo.
