JAKARTA - Automotive manufacturer from India Mahindra will present a five-door version of the Thar model. It is reported that this SUV is one of the most eagerly awaited cars this year.
Launching Autocar India, Monday, July 1, the model, known as Thar Armada, is assembled at Mahindra's factory, precisely in Chakan, India.
The Mumbai-based Indian manufacturer has reportedly increased production for these five-door Thars on the grounds of high demand from potential customers. Initially, the brand planned a monthly production of around 2,500 units, now up to 5,000 to 6,000 units per month. Thus, the production of this SUV model can reach nearly 70,000 units per year, up from the planned 30,000 units from scratch.
Thar five doors will be an alternative option that prioritizes the practicality side compared to the three-door version. The model will have a long wheelbase with a wider cabin and baggage room.
Mahindra will offer several powertrain options for this model, ranging from a rear-wheeled 1.5 liter diesel engine (RWD) as an entry-level type of up to 2.2 liters diesel with four wheels (4WD). In addition, Thar Armada will be present with the option of a 2.0 liter turbo gasoline engine.
