JAKARTA - Kia officially returned to the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) exhibition after being absent for five years. At the world's largest consumer technology exhibition which took place from January 9-12 in Las Vegas, USA, Kia brought five commercial electric vehicle (EV) concepts.

These five electric vehicles are classified as Platform Beyond Vehicles (PBV) solutions and aimed at the commercial sector as well as customers with special mobility needs.

The five PBV concept vehicles presented are from three PV5 Concept variations, one PV7 Concept, and PV1 Concept.

"The Kia PBV business represents our vision to go beyond the traditional concept of cars in order to meet the needs of various customers and communities that have not been met through vehicles and services that are optimized to meet certain markets and business conditions," said Ho Sung Song, President and CEO of Kia, in a company release, January 9.

But the most highlighted of Kia's model is the Concept PV5, a modular vehicle that can be adapted to user needs that reflect future models.

Three variations in the PV5 concept have a large door that makes it easier for customers to enter and get out of the cabin. Carrying goods into the vehicle should be an easy job with his car which has a long wheelbase and the right floor height to increase comfort.

All PBV vehicles will be equipped with rail systems on floors, side panels, and ceilings; this allows each vehicle to be tailored to the needs of users and goods can be moved easily from one vehicle to another.

Production of this PBV vehicle will begin in 2025 at a new factory on the Hwaseong website, South Korea. Initially, Kia hoped to produce around 100,000 vehicles annually, with plans to increase this number to 150,000 units.

In the coming years, Kia is also planning to introduce some body styles, including models 'Basic', Chassis Cab, High Roof, and Van. Later, the Korean automotive manufacturer hopes to introduce a version of Robotaxi or its own autonomous taxi, designed in collaboration with Motional, Hyundai's self-driving subsidiary.

"Kia PBV is the culmination of our customer-oriented business approach. With the aim of developing PBV and solutions that are adapted to their business environment, we believe with a strong partnership it will be a big impetus towards becoming a provider of sustainable mobility solutions," concluded Pierre-Martin Bos, Vice President and Director of PBV Kia.
